Childcare Assistance Program

The City of Austin offers up to a $5,000 annual benefit to regular, Full-time City employees with children under the age of 13 to use towards care-related costs that allow you to work, look for work, or attend school. This assistance is offered on a first-come, first-served basis as funding permits.  Eligibility criteria include income and family size.

Applications for the program are accepted at any time throughout the year. Annual contribution amounts will be reduced for applications received after January 1st. Benefits will end effective December 31st of the current year. Unused funds expire, they do not roll over from year to year.  Recertification is required and takes place annually during Open Enrollment (typically in October of each year).

Employees can submit an online application here or download and complete the 2024 Childcare Assistance Program Application and submit it by email to benefits.hrd@austintexas.gov.

Tobacco Cessation 101 

Employees and dependents on a City medical plan who use tobacco products are subject to a $12.50 Tobacco Premium per pay period. To waive the premium the employee or dependent must complete the Tobacco Cessation 101 Program. Follow these instructions to complete Tobacco Cessation 101 Program

Diabetes Control Program

Employees and dependents (age 15 and older) on a City medical plan are eligible to participate in the City's Diabetes Control Program. For 2024, part of the Diabetes Control Program requirements includes completing the Lifestyle Management Class, that is available as an on-demand webinar. Follow these instructions to complete the DCP Lifestyle Management Class.

Affordable Small Dollar Loans

City employees will have access to apply for small dollar loans through the Community Loan Center of Austin (CLC) ranging from $400 - $1,000. You must be employed with the City a minimum of 90 days to be eligible. Payments can be deducted from your paycheck or set up through automatic draft.
