Our Parks, Our Future

Our Parks, Our Future Long Range Plan

Did you know that the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has a 10-year plan for the City of Austin's parks system, aiming to guide its development and expansion?

Adopted by the Austin City Council on November 14, 2019, the plan, titled Our Parks, Our Future, sets a strategic direction for land acquisition, facility improvements, and the creation of new programs and amenities from 2020 to 2030.

The Long Range Plan serves as a roadmap for Austin’s growing park and recreation needs. The plan addresses the challenges posed by rapid population growth, an increasing reliance on private and philanthropic funding, and the latest sustainable park management practices.

The planning process involves a thorough evaluation of existing parks and facilities, demographic data analysis, and a review of national trends and industry standards. Public input is a vital component, with extensive outreach to local citizens, park advocates, conservancies, neighborhood associations, nonprofit groups, and other community partners.

By engaging with the public and taking into account both current needs and future trends, Our Parks, Our Future sets the stage for a vibrant, sustainable park system that can meet the demands of Austin’s rapidly growing population over the next decade.
