Celebrating Pride Sustainably

This Pride Month, the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability is proud to stand with and recognize members of the LGBTQ+ community. We know that our vision of a thriving, equitable, and resilient Austin cannot be achieved without their presence and contributions.

Did you know that the green stripe in the Pride flag represents a connection with nature? To honor Pride and the ultimate mother, Mother Earth, we’ve pulled together some local events that will help you celebrate sustainably.

DAC Nights: Mend Mania

Hosted by the Dougherty Arts Center

At the Dougherty Arts Center on Wednesday, June 26, from 7-9 pm

Textile arts have a deep thread interwoven with Queer history, from challenging gendered connotations to demanding visibility from those around them. Led by DAC’s own weaving wonder Cidnye Stott, this event will provide supplies and guidance to strengthen well-loved textiles or transform clothing through patchwork and visible mending, queering the idea of fabric and thread itself!
