The City of Austin is conducting a study of street lighting in West Campus, with a focus on pedestrian safety. The Austin Transportation Department, Austin Police Department and Austin Energy will collaborate to deliver a final report to Council in spring 2018, incorporating the lighting study with a public engagement process, a pedestrian crash analysis and a crime analysis of the West Campus area. These combined efforts will provide a better understanding of how pedestrian lighting may improve existing conditions related to crime and traffic safety.
Questions about the West Campus Lighting Study can be directed to Joel Meyer, Pedestrian Coordinator with Austin Transportation Department, at email@example.com.
The Austin Transportation Department collected community input on lighting in West Campus through an online survey and interactive input map that were open between October 2017 and February 2018, along with a public open house and neighborhood night walk held in January 2018. The comments collected through these efforts are currently being compiled by City staff. A summary of community input will be included in the draft West Campus Lighting Study.
