Found between 7th and 12th Streets along Red River Street, the Red River Cultural District provides residents and visitors with ample opportunities to experience live music in the Live Music Capital of the World. Live music venues, restaurants, cultural organizations, hotels, and additional establishments are all part of the activity taking place in this vibrant downtown district.
With the goal of strengthening the district’s identity and addressing the challenges in the area, RRCD businesses and organizations joined the Soul-y Austin program in 2015. In early 2016, the Red River Merchants Association successfully formed and, since then, has been active in engaging stakeholders and government officials as they focus on improving the district’s conditions to create a more pedestrian friendly experience that attracts patrons.
Businesses and organizations participating in the development and activities of the Red River Merchants Association include Mohawk Austin, Cheer Up Charlies, the German Texan Heritage Society, The Beverly, Stubb’s, Empire, Barracuda, Hoboken Pie, Beerland, Elysium, Koriente, Waller Creek Pub, The Sidewinder, Swan Dive, Twin Liquors, among others.
In partnership with the Soul-y Austin team, the Red River Merchants Association is focusing on implementing district placemaking projects that focus on increasing safety and beautifying the area to increase the number of show-goers in the district. Additionally, the association is collaborating with stakeholders and government officials to ensure that artists and creatives have opportunities to showcase their talent in this live music city.
The Red River Merchants Association is constantly seeking support from businesses and stakeholders in the area. If you are interested in joining the efforts please contact Stephen Sternschein, President at email@example.com.
