Water/Wastewater Service
Austin Water provides clean, reliable water services for residential, commercial, industrial and public use for Austin residents and businesses, and has been doing so for more than a century. Austin Water consistently ranks among the best in the country when it comes to water quality.
Water Conservation
Austin Water has many water conservation resources to help protect our drinking water supply. We are currently under mandatory Stage 2 watering restrictions. On August 16, 2012, Austin City Council voted 6-0 to revise Austin’s water use management strategy, including the Water Conservation Code and Drought Management Plan. These documents outline how customers of the City’s water utility may use water. Beyond adhering to watering restrictions, there is plenty our residential and commercial customers can to do conserve water and save money in the process.
Water Treatment Plant 4
Austin’s newest water treatment plant is under construction; the plant will provide the water system with the capacity and stability to ensure clean drinking water for years to come. Learn more about WTP4, its design and construction, and how we are protecting the environment during construction.
Environmental Protection
Austin Water works to ensure a clean drinking water supply while protecting the surrounding environment. We work with our customers to prevent drinking water contamination by non-potable (non-drinking) water and make sure our wastewater is protected from pollutants, responsibly treated and returned to the environment. Also, learn more about our Center for Environmental Research (CER) at Hornsby Bend and how the CER works to support urban ecology and sustainability in Austin.
