About the Program
Are you curious about how the City manages its emergency services during major events or natural disasters? Have you ever thought about what it takes to maintain Austin’s extensive park system year-round? Discover these answers and more with us! Austin CityWorks Academy is an inside look at Austin government. It features executive team members, department directors, and other City staff who host unique, interactive, and informative sessions designed to provide hands-on experience with city government operations. Many departments participate, including the Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, Austin Animal Services, Transportation and Public Works, Austin 3-1-1, and Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, among others. A light dinner and accessible parking are provided for each session, and language access resources, including ASL, are provided as needed.

How to Apply
Applications are due by July 31, 2024.
Interested community members can apply throughout the year. Please submit your application by July 31, 2024, to be eligible for the fall session. Applications received by this date will be considered for the 2024 cohort of CityWorks Academy.
Eligibility
All those living within the Austin city limits are eligible to apply. Please note that City of Austin employees are not eligible at this time.
Schedule
Classes are typically held on Mondays from 6 PM to 8 PM. The program begins in September and concludes in December each year, with a graduation ceremony to follow.
Location
Classes take place weekly at various locations around the city, including several sessions at Austin City Hall. A complete schedule will be provided to participants upon acceptance.
