Austin Energy 2016 Rate Review: Documents and Notices
The City of Austin is examining Austin Energy's base electric rates through an in-depth cost of service study and independent public rate review process. This process updates the utility's retail rates so they more closely recover the costs the utility incurs in the current operating environment.
Unlike most utilities, Austin Energy's rates are set in a public, transparent manner by the community's elected officials.
The Austin City Council has designated an Impartial Hearing Examiner to review information from the electric utility, stakeholders and customer groups. Through the review, the Impartial Hearing Examiner will assist the Austin City Council in establishing fair and balanced rates through the independent and impartial review of Austin Energy's recommendations and through the deliberate consideration of the concerns and opinions of the utility's customers.
Specifically, the Impartial Hearing Examiner will:
-
Provide an independent forum for the exchange of information and ideas related to AE's rate proposals.
-
Conduct open and fair hearings.
-
Consolidate and organize the information provided through the hearings for City Council.
-
Make recommendations to Council based on evidence, policy and law.
-
Provide the Council with a logical, legal way to frame and take action on policy decisions.
This website will serve as the official public record of all documents filed with the Impartial Hearing Examiner.
