The Austin-Travis County EMS Training Center Provides Basic Life Support (BLS) courses in CPR and First Aid to anyone who wants to learn how to save a life.  All BLS courses taught by the ATCEMS Training Center are official American Heart Association courses. Upon successful completion of the course students will be issued an official American Heart Association completion card.  

When attending a class please wear loose comfortable clothing and anticipate being on your hands and knees, bending, standing and lifting. If you have any physical conditions that may prevent you from doing these activities, please tell the registrar during registration. The CPR Program Coordinator will work to accommodate your needs within the stated course completion requirements.

BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR Initial Course

Course Fee:   $50.00

Course Description:  This 5 hour class includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  It covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign body airway obstruction, and AED use.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and at the end of the course students will be given a skills test along with a written exam.

This class is required for but not limited to healthcare professionals (nurses, EMT’s, Paramedic, Healthcare professions students, etc).

Heartcode BLS Online Blended Learning Course 

Course Fee:  $32.50 (plus tax) and $20.00 for the skills practice/testing

Course Description:  HeartCode® BLS Online is a self-directed, comprehensive eLearning program that uses adaptive learning technology to allow learners to acquire and demonstrate Basic Life Support skills using a personalized learning path that adapts in real time to a learner’s performance. The program is designed for healthcare professionals who need Basic Life Support training for their clinical duties. Utilizing a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, Cognitive Assessment Activities, illustrations, knowledge checks and interactive activities, this program teaches BLS knowledge and skills. This method of learning provides training consistency and adaptability to different learning styles. Students can work at their own pace applying their knowledge to real-time decision making. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each knowledge check and each Cognitive Assessment Activity. Students who successfully complete the cognitive portion and the hands-on session (skills) will receive an AHA BLS Provider course completion card (eCard), valid for two years.

Heartsaver® Basic - Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online

Course Description:  Heartsaver® Basic – Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is a self-directed course path which provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of first aid, CPR, and how to use an AED. Ideal for students who want the flexibility to complete the cognitive portion of the course at their own pace and location. The Heartsaver Basic course path is for those requiring training to meet employer job requirements or want to learn lifesaving skills. Heartsaver Basic – Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Online is NOT designed to meet OSHA or regulatory requirements.  Separate hands-on skills session required for this course.

Heartsaver® CPR AED Online

Heartsaver Adult with AED Course

Course Description: This 4 Hour American Heart Association Course includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  The course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and use of barrier devices for all ages.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and will be given a skills test at the end of the course for initiating CPR along with using an AED on a manikin.

Heartsaver Adult & Pediatric with AED Course  **Updating Soon**

Course Description: This American Heart Association Course includes a video lecture and hands on skills.  The course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, and infant CPR and relief of choking, and use of barrier devices for all ages.  Throughout the course students will be observed practicing CPR with AED skills and will be given a skills test at the end of the course for initiating CPR along with using an AED on a manikin.

This course meets the Texas Department of State Health Services guidelines for childcare centers.

Heartsaver CPR & First Aid Course

Course Fee:                 $65.00

Course Description:  This 4 hour American Heart Association Course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  Course is a video based instruction and includes General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies and may include Environmental Emergencies.  Through out the course students will be observed practicing First Aid Basic skills and will be given short quizzes over the different First Aid sections.

The ATCEMS Training Center offers offsite classes at your facility for a minimum of six students. Offsite classes are scheduled from Tuesday through Friday only.  Two weeks notice is required to set up a class at your facility.
