Below are the disqualifiers for the EMS Medic I – Communications Hiring Process. Please review the following carefully to determine your potential eligibility.
Austin-Travis County EMS Recruiting office will not answer questions concerning an applicant’s potential eligibility with respect to the following questions. All applicants will be thoroughly verified for eligibility prior to being offered the position of EMS Medic I - Communications. If you feel that you meet the minimum requirements to be considered for a position, you are encouraged to apply.
An applicant may be disqualified for one or more of the following reasons, including but not limited to:
A. Applicant fails to meet the minimum qualifications.
B. Applicant fails to make application in the manner prescribed in the notice of examination, and/or fails to file the application within the specified time period.
C. Applicant fails to complete the hiring process requirements, including failure to timely return required documentation/information, and missed appointments.
D. Applicant makes any false statement in any material fact; withholds information, practices or attempts to practice any deception or fraud in his/her application, examination, or appointment. Disqualification for reasons of dishonesty or deception in the selection and hiring process may be a permanent disqualification.
E. Applicant fails to satisfactorily pass each element of the hiring process.
F. Applicant has a conviction for, or is currently under indictment or charged with any felony offense. This includes deferred adjudication and juvenile felony adjudication (A person is considered to be convicted of an offence when an adjudication of guilt is entered against said person by a court of competent jurisdiction, or a plea of guilty is entered) within the last ten (10) years of application deadline date.
G. Applicant has a conviction for, or is currently charged with any misdemeanor offense involving moral turpitude within the last ten (10) years of the application deadline date.
H. Applicant has been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years of the application deadline date.
I. Illegally used any controlled substance or illegal drug, including marijuana within the last three (3) years of the application deadline date.
J. Applicant has a conviction for driving under the influence (DWI or DUI) within the last ten (10) years of the application deadline date.
K. Applicant has a conviction for Family Violence within the last ten (10) years of the application deadline date.
L. Applicant is prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
M. Applicant’s driver’s license has been suspended for any reason that indicates poor driving behavior or responsibility to comply with state laws within five (5) years preceding the date of application or during the hiring process.
N. Applicant fails to meet the Driver Record Evaluation standards for New Hires of the City of Austin (have no more than six (6) DRE points within the last three (3) years).
O. Applicant was discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditions, including but not limited to:
1. Under other than honorable conditions
2. Bad conduct
3. Dishonorable; or
4. Any other characterization of service indicating bad character
P. Applicant has had an emergency medical services certification or license, nurse’s license, or any other medical related certification or license denied by final order, revoked, or suspended, or has voluntarily surrendered such certification or license to avoid suspension.
Q. Applicant was terminated from any private or public safety department (Fire, Police, EMS, dispatch/call center or service, including any volunteer agencies) for disciplinary reasons, to avoid suspension or termination, or having resigned in lieu of termination, resignation during a disciplinary investigation without a final judgment being rendered within the last ten (10) years of the application deadline date.
R. Any risk behaviors associated with drug and/or alcohol use.
S. Any behaviors associated with threatening and/or violent behavior.
T. Any other reason not specifically addressed above that leads the Chief to consider the applicant to be deemed not suitable for employment as a Medic I.
