On Saturday, October 25, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a call that reported a shooting in the 3200 block of Guadalupe Street. Officers arrived at the scene and located a victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim reported that the suspect left the scene and headed south on Guadalupe. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

At approximately 12:06 p.m., APD officers responded to a Gun hotshot call at the Austin Central Library located at 710 W Cesar Chavez Street. Officers arrived at the scene and located one victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers entered the library and cleared the building. It was determined that the suspect left the scene immediately after the shooting and got on a CapMetro bus.

Officers were able to acquire a suspect description which was disseminated to sworn personnel across the city.

The suspect in both incidents was later identified as Harold N. Keene. Keene was located inside a business in a shopping center at 4006 S Lamar Boulevard. He was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail. At this time Keene is charged with one count of Aggravated Assault related to the incident at the Austin Public Library. Keene is also being held on two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Deadly Conduct related to the earlier incident.

Both victims were transported to local hospitals and are expected to survive.
