African American Quality of Life

The African American Quality of Life Initiative began as the City of Austin assessed the conditions and sentiment of the City’s African American community through a series of community discussions and presentations to City Council.

Subcommittees

The cornerstones of the initiative are subcommittees co-chaired by a City staffer and community representative. Subcommittees focus on:

  • Arts, Culture and Entertainment
  • Business and Economic Development
  • Employment and Education
  • Health
  • Neighborhood Sustainability
  • Police and Safety

Task Forces

Also, the City and the Austin Independent School District (AISD) have directed the formulation of task forces to address the quality of life, specifically education, of African American and Hispanic citizens. Progress of those task forces can be tracked on the AISD website.
