Small Business Saturday, November 26 is celebrated by the City of Austin as the kick-off to the holiday shopping season. In support of giving local gifts, the Spend Smart, Spend Local campaign continues in 2016 with a special cameo by Mayor Steve Adler. Watch the full video clip on YouTube! Mayor Adler emphasizes the importance of supporting the local Austin economy.
“Local business is a driving force of creativity and inspiration for our city.” explains Mayor Adler. “As Mayor, I’m proud of the thousands of small businesses that serve our community and the hardworking Austinites that help create local jobs and revenue for our city.”
To further promote our beloved Austin businesses, the Small Business Program, a division of the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department, manages LocallyAustin.org website and mobile app directory of locally-owned, small businesses. This helpful tool allows consumers to search for unique gift ideas in Austin on Small Business Saturday and shopping throughout the year.
Locally Austin encourages locally-owned small businesses to register online to increase their online presence. This free directory helps connect hundreds of Austin-based businesses from a variety of industries to interested consumers, both residents and visitors alike. Also featured is a Shop Zero Waste category offered in partnership with Austin Resource Recovery to promote local businesses that sell recycled, upcycled, or reused items. From bike repair to finding a used computer to shopping for products made from recycled materials, shoppers can search sustainable businesses for gift ideas.
Visit LocallyAustin.org for information on the local businesses that want to help you spread joy this holiday season.
