City of Austin

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Release Date: Nov. 06, 2020
Contact: Public Affairs Office, Austin Public Works     512-974-7111    Email

Austin Public Works is resuming efforts to improve Southwest Parkway beginning Monday, Nov. 9. Two major improvement projects—a street rehabilitation and a mill and overlay—will take place along different sections of Southwest Parkway, east and west of W. William Cannon Dr. Drivers in these areas are asked to abide to signs and flaggers during this time. Vehicles will have access to Southwest Parkway in both directions at all times while work is occurring.

Street Rehabilitation Project

A street rehabilitation project will occur from W. William Cannon Dr. eastward towards Mission Oaks Blvd. This work will consist of replacement of the street base layer and application of a new surface. The improvements are intended to enhance the safety and reliability of the roadway for drivers. This project is made possible by the voter-approved 2018 Bond (Proposition G).

Both eastbound and westbound lanes will undergo maintenance. Some lane closures may be in effect during working hours.

Timeframe:
Work will begin Monday, Nov. 9. The overall project is expected to take three months to complete, weather permitting.

Work hours:
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday (as needed)

Schedules are projected as accurately as possible, but are subject to change.

Mill and Overlay Project

The City will simultaneously begin a more routine mill and overlay project from W. William Cannon Dr., westward to just beyond Amarra Trail. The purpose of the project is to provide a smoother, durable, and safer surface for vehicles.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes will receive the treatment and some lane closures may be in effect during this period. This work is part of Public Works' annual street preventative maintenance plan.

Timeframe:
Work will begin Monday, Nov. 9. The overall project is expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.

Work hours:
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday (as needed)

Schedules are projected as accurately as possible, but are subject to change.
