City of AustinFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Since May 8, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has monitored capacity at Emma Long Metropolitan Park, Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park, and Walter E. Long Metropolitan Park. Based upon observations and data collection related to park usage, monitored access has allowed PARD to promote safe park usage during the City of Austin's modified operations.
Beginning on Thursday, May 21, park staff will monitor walk-in/cyclist capacity at these parks. Once capacity is reached, no additional walk-ins/cyclists will be allowed into the parks. Signage will be on-site along with park staff to educate visitors.
Walk-ins/cyclists will move to a day pass system (similar to vehicles) in the coming weeks. A date for passes will be announced when the system is operational.
PARD wishes to remind park visitors that no parking is allowed on the right-of-way outside these parks. Please reserve day passes and only park in designated parking areas.
Since May 14, a vehicle day pass has been required to visit Emma Long, Walter E. Long and Commons Ford Metropolitan Parks. This pass is available at austintexas.gov/parks or by calling 512-974-6797, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (excluding holidays). Regular entry fees apply for Emma Long and Walter E. Long parks. Commons Ford entry remains free, but requires a pass.
No entry is granted without a day pass reservation, including Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
Visitors admitted to these parks do not have “in-and-out” privileges. Patrons should come prepared to stay until they are ready to leave.
PARD will continue to monitor park capacity and modify operations as needed. Additional information regarding the modified operations, closures, and online registration will be made available on the PARD website, austintexas.gov/parks.
