Contact: Public Information Office     512-974-5017    Email

Case:         20-0550293

Date:         February 24, 2021

Time:         7 a.m.

Location:  near the 8600 block of Bluff Springs Rd.

The Austin Police Department Sex Crimes Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for sexually assaulting a female victim. The incident occurred this morning, Wednesday, February 24, 2021, near the 8600 block of Bluff Springs Rd., around 7 a.m. The suspect was driving a black, unmarked law enforcement type vehicle with a light bar on top. He activated the lights and the victim thought she was being pulled over. The victim stopped and the suspect assaulted the victim in the backseat of her car. The suspect displayed a black hand-gun during the assault and wore a ski mask. It appeared the suspect could be a tan-skinned, White male about six feet tall.

Safety tips for the public: If you believe a law enforcement vehicle is signaling you to pull over and you don’t feel safe, you can take the following steps: turn your flashers on, drive slowly and safely to a well-lit and populated area. Additionally, as you’re driving slowly and safely with your flashers on, you can call 911 to verify you are being pulled over by a legitimate peace officer. Officers who attempt a traffic stop will be wearing some type of identifying emblems on their clothing or displaying a badge or ID. They will also identify the agency they’re with during contact with you.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the APD Sex Crimes Tip Line at 512-974-5095, Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS, submit a tip on the Crime Stoppers website or use the Crime Stoppers app. All information is anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. You can also submit tips anonymously through APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, which can be downloaded for free on iPhone and Android.
