Chief Financial Officer Ed Van Eenoo has more than 30 years of experience as a public servant and finance professional. He served two years with the Peace Corps as a volunteer mathematics teacher in rural Kenya. After returning to the United States, he worked five years as a research associate at Virginia Tech University, where he specialized in demand economics and agricultural property assessment. In 2000, he joined the Office of Budget & Analysis at the City of Chula Vista, CA and led the implementation of the Managing for Results program—an integrated performance management framework for aligning the city’s budget with organizational objectives and performance measurements. He advanced to the Director of the department in 2005.
Van Eenoo joined the City of Austin in 2009 as its Budget Officer, where he initiated a complete overhaul of the City’s budget process, document, and performance measurement framework. He has promoted to Deputy CFO in 2013 and CFO in 2020. As CFO, he is responsible for the City's $6.3 billion budget and overseeing Budget and Organizational Excellence, Facilities Management, Financial Services, Fleet and Mobility Services, and Technology Services.
Van Eenoo holds a bachelor's degree in economics with a minor in mathematics from Eastern Michigan University and a master's degree in applied economics from Virginia Tech University. He was recognized as one of Austin's best CFOs by the Austin Business Journal in 2024.
