On January 26, 2026, at approximately 7:31 p.m. Austin Police (APD) officers responded to a collision between a motor vehicle and a motorcycle at the intersection of North IH 35 SB SVRD and 38 ½ Street. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. 
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s fifth fatal crash of 2026, resulting in five fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2025, two fatal crashes resulted in two deaths.
