Background and Project Purpose
The purpose of this study is to understand how recent growth in Austin and increased use of the Trail has impacted the experience for residents and visitors. The plan will also project how future growth in the city may impact the trail to help the Trail Foundation prepare and plan for the coming decades. This study process will establish a vision to ensure the Trail will continue to be a natural sanctuary for all Austinites and visitors. A key goal of this process is to identify and outline the feasibility of key projects to help the Trail Foundation implement its vision.
The Study will help inform a plan to prepare for future growth and how it will impact the Trail in coming decades. The Study process will also help identify and outline the feasibility of key projects to help the community implement its vision.
Schedule
The Safety and Mobility Study effort launched in early 2020. The study was initially scheduled to wrap before Fall 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the study is scheduled to conclude in the first quarter of 2021.
Funding
Funding for this project is being provided by The Trail Foundation, Austin Public Works Urban Trails Program, and PARD.
