Welcome to the Soul-y Austin Team, Texas C-BAR!

Mar 8, 2016 - 8:01 am

We are delighted to introduce a member of the Soul-y Austin team, Texas C-BAR.

Texas C-BAR is a non-profit organization that provides free resources and business law services to different organizations, primarily those that focus on improving the quality of life in low-income neighborhoods around the state.  With the support of the Texas Bar Foundation, Texas C-BAR was founded in 2000 and has since been providing support to local communities, individuals, and businesses.

Andrea Harrington is representing Texas C-BAR on our Soul-y Austin team.  Andrea obtained her A.B. cum laude at Harvard University, and later graduated with her J.D. degree from the University Of Texas School Of Law. She has been an attorney with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid’s Legal Assistance to Microenterprises since 2003, providing legal representation to microentrepreneurs, facilitating pro bono small business legal clinics, providing the community with legal education on legal issues that are relevant to small businesses and microentrepreneurs, as well as assisting with pro bono referrals.

Andrea reveals that what she enjoys the most about working on the Soul-y Austin Team is meeting and getting to know the small business owners, while at the same time learning what their obstacles, hopes and dreams really are. Additionally, what excites her most about the future of this initiative is its potential to spread to different neighborhoods around the City, enhancing Austin’s commercial corridors.

A pro bono attorney will be provided to the Soul-y Austin districts through Texas CBARs referral program to further assist businesses with support as they form their district merchants association. Texas C-BAR supports Soul-y Austin with meeting facilitation, trainings on association formation and management, matters and processes, and the drafting of the associations’ bylaws.

“I see a merchant's association incubator project being invaluable in empowering small businesses in the City of Austin to acquire a voice, and to effectively advocate for themselves and their districts.”
