On December 21, 2018, City Manager Spencer Cronk appointed Rodney Gonzales as the Assistant City Manager to oversee the Economic Development and Affordability Strategic Priority. Mr. Gonzales assumed his new position on January 6, 2019.
On January, 4,, 2019, Mr. Gonzales appointed Deputy Director Denise Lucas as Acting Director, effective January 6, 2019. Ms. Lucas will serve in this capacity until the process for a permanent director is completed.
Ms. Lucas has served as Deputy Director of DSD since November, 2017, managing building plan reviews and inspections. Ms. Lucas began her employment with the City of Austin in 2010. Prior to joining DSD, she served as Deputy Chief Information Officer for Communication and Technology Management and Deputy Purchasing Officer for the Purchasing Office. Her experience in the private sector includes 12 years at Advanced Micro Devices in various capacities.
Mr. Gonzales said he was "confident in Ms. Lucas’ ability to continue advancing the department’s customer service and technology enhancements."
