In 1871, Ney left a meteoric artistic practice in Germany as a political refugee, resettling in Southeast Texas. Twenty years later, she restarted her career in Austin, creating some of Texas’s most iconic statuary, some of which reside in the Capitol buildings in Washington, D.C., and Austin.
