the South I-35 Water/Wastewater Program
Program Overview

The southeastern area of the City of Austin's Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ), specifically along and east of I-35, is currently undergoing significant development. To meet future water and wastewater demands in this area, AWU has created the South I-35 Water/Wastewater Program to fast-track its key major infrastructure projects to provide additional water and wastewater capacity to the southeast area by the end of 2010.

Due to the large size of the Program, AWU has hired URS Corporation (URS) to manage the Program, and Group Solutions RJW to coordinate and communicate with the public.

Frequently Asked Questions

Program Description

Water System Improvements

  • A new 20 million gallons per day (MGD) capacity pump station (expandable to 50 MGD) at the existing Pilot Knob Reservoir.

  • Approximately 13 miles of 36-inch to 48-inch water transmission main.

  • A new 4 million gallon elevated storage tank located west of I-35 and north of the proposed SH-45. The elevated storage tank will be constructed in 2012 or later.

Wastewater Improvements

  • Approximately 5 miles of 54-inch diameter and smaller interceptor that will convey wastewater from new developments in the program area to an existing 54-inch diameter interceptor located near the intersection of Slaughter and Onion Creeks. The interceptor will be installed using tunneling construction techniques where necessary to minimize disruption to neighborhoods and/or environmentally sensitive areas.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Public involvement is a crucial component of the South IH-35 WWW Program. The program team is committed to informing you of project activities and schedules, answering questions, and addressing concerns.

Other materials such as fact sheets and a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) will be developed to aid in project understanding. The program team also plans to meet with stakeholders at critical junctures. We are interested in meeting with Homeowners' Associations in the project area and partnering with them to share information.

If you call after business hours or on weekends, you may leave a message and your call will be returned on the next business day. A log of all calls received will be maintained. The program team will be informed of the types of questions asked as well as any concerns raised so that issues may be addressed in a timely and effective manner.
