Commercial Garbage Collection:
Residential Areas
Most businesses contract with their choice of private hauler for garbage and recycling service. However, some small businesses, usually in residential areas, may choose to have their garbage collected by Solid Waste Services. In addition, Solid Waste Services manages a downtown garbage collection contract for businesses and residents on designated streets downtown.
Commercial Service Features
- Garbage collection from 90 gallon cart(s)
- Garbage carts can be emptied multiple times a week depending on your need
- Free weekly recycling collection in 18 gallon blue bins, if you have our garbage service
Monthly Rates
The monthly rate consists of the following charges:
- Base Rate - $25
- Cart Charges - $6.50 x the number of carts x the number of times they are emptied each week
- Frequency Surcharge - $0 for once a week service; $40 for twice a week service; $200 for service 6 days a week
Additional Charges
- Anti-litter Fee – all businesses in the City pay this $4.55 fee regardless of who collects their garbage.
- New Service Fee - $15
- Cart Delivery Fee - $15 for adding additional carts after service has already been established
- Extra Garbage Fees - $4 per bag or purchase $2 extra garbage stickers from grocery stores instead.
Recycling
Solid Waste Services collects recycling once a week from businesses that use our garbage service at no extra charge. Please follow the residential guidelines and separate your paper recycling from the rest of your recycling:
- Metal cans
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles – only recycle bottles that have a smaller neck than the bottom. Also, look for a 1 or a 2 stamped on the bottom of the bottle inside the recycling symbol.
- Paper – please keep separate from your bottles, cans and jars. Include newspaper, mixed office paper, magazines and junk mail with your paper recycling.
- Corrugated cardboard – must be flattened, folded to less than 2 feet by 2 feet, and tied into bundles.
Solid Waste Services’ recycling program exceeds the requirements of Austin’s Recycling Ordinance. If your business has more than 100 employees, you are required to provide onsite recycling.
Waste reduction technical assistance, which can help reduce your waste volume and your garbage collection costs, can be obtained through the Waste Reduction Assistance Program.
