It’s time to fight the flu and help protect ourselves and the community by getting an annual flu shot. The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department has scheduled seasonal flu vaccine clinics throughout Austin and Travis County. Free flu shots are available for uninsured and under-insured Travis County residents 6 months of age or older and all Medicare recipients (please bring card). While most of the flu vaccine clinics require an appointment, other clinics are set up on a walk-in basis (see schedule below) for the public’s convenience. For appointments, please call 512-972-5520.
All shots are free—suggested donation is $10.00.
It is never too early to get a flu shot. The timing of flu activity is very unpredictable and can vary from season to season. Flu activity most commonly peaks in Texas in February. However, seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May. Last year’s flu season began relatively early – in fact, 4 weeks earlier, – compared to recent seasons.
Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services continues to urge everyone to take steps to protect your health and your family’s health and lessen the spread of the flu:
Get a seasonal flu shot.
Wash your hands often.
Cover your coughs and sneezes. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve and not your hands.
