Parks and Recreation Department earns national accreditation
The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department recently became the only major city in Texas and one of 73 cities nationwide that earned national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies.
Sara Hensley will lead Austin Parks and Recreation Department
On September 22, City Manager Marc Ott announced the appointment of Sara Hensley, Director of Parks and Recreation in Phoenix, to lead its nationally recognized parks system.
She has been director in Phoenix since 2006. Hensley will begin Dec. 1, taking over for Acting Director Stuart Strong who did not apply for the job and will remain as an Assistant Director.
The Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake Proposed Plan.
The City of Austin is considering a plan that would close the southeastern gap of the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail.
The Boardwalk Trail at Lady Bird Lake would extend the Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail more than one mile from the east side of the Austin American-Statesman building to Lakeshore Park.

The City of Austin's Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting sponsorships for the 2008 Trail of Lights Festival. This years' trail will run December 14th through 23rd. Be a part of this exciting tradition! Sponsors shall receive logo placement on the Trail, limited passes to the Trail of Lights Preview Party and an advertisement in the Trail Guide: commensurate with sponsorship level.

DinoLand Exhibit at Zilker Botanical Garden
Visitors during the 3-month DinoLand Exhibit will travel back in time, coming face to face with thirty life-like dinosaur models of every shape and size.
These prehistoric creatures will take up temporary residence along the new Escarpment Trail (near the Hartman Prehistoric Garden) being developed by PARD staff.
From the fierce, 33-ft. Daspletosaur (cousin to the T-Rex) to a herd of tiny carnivores - Compsognathus (Compies in the movie, Jurassic Park) - these scientifically accurate dinosaur models were created by Guy Darrough,
a renowned paleontologist, and owner of Lost World Studios.

Trail of Lights Volunteers Call !
Join 400,000 People at Austin's Family Block Party. The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department is seeking volunteers for the 2008 Trail of Lights, December 14-23, 2008.
Each night of the trail, we need 100 volunteers, age 18 or over; 30 volunteers, age 15 or over with adult supervision.
Volunteers add holiday spirit to the Trail of Lights by providing public information, monitoring displays, helping with our recycling efforts and other important trail duties.
