The Aquatic Division operates 48 public pool facilities, which includes: 27 neighborhood pools, 12 wading pools, 6 municipal pools, 2 water playgrounds and Barton Springs Pool. Aquatics also offers instructional programs.

Also offered are a wide variety of swim lessons, water aerobics classes for ages 6 months to adult. Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor training classes are available for persons 15 years of age and older who wish to apply to be a City of Austin Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor. Aquatic Division wins Gold
The National Recreation and Park Association Excellence in Aquatics Award was presented to Austin Parks and Recreation Department - Aquatics Division on Friday, March 3, 2006 at the National Aquatic Conference. This award recognizing superior aquatic services in facilities. The Award is given in five categories based on population, size of community served, and to one individual for outstanding contributions to aquatics.

Swim lessons are designed in progressive levels and are taught in 2 week time frames per session. New skills are introduced and previously learned skills are reviewed and refined each day. At each progressive step more endurance and stroke competence is expected. Classes are available for ages 6 months through adults.

A detailed Summer Aquatic Program brochure outlining the swim lessons, water aerobics and swim team programs offered is printed each year. The annual brochure is available at all City Libraries, Recreation Centers, Parks and Recreation Department Main Office and the Aquatic Office. Program dates, times, locations, cost, as well as, registration information and forms are included in the brochure. Swim Lesson class listing will be available April 2nd available on-line at http://coawebparks.ci.austin.tx.us/registrationmain.sdi. On-line registration is not available at this time.


Summer Swim Team Program

The Aquatic Division offers a recreational swim team program for children 5-17years of age. Any child is encouraged to participate that can swim 25 meters, and doesn't have a fear of the water. Teams begin the end of May and continue through the end of July. A variety of swim meets are held each summer ending with the City Wide swim meet. Swim Team Information
