Small Business Saturday, November 25th is celebrated by the City of Austin Small Business Program as the kick-off to the holiday shopping season. Austinites are encouraged to Spend Smart, Spend Local to support small businesses when on the hunt for novelty gifts, dining out with friends, or treating loved ones to a day of pampering.
Five great reasons to Spend Smart, Spend Local
Small, local businesses are what gives Austin its distinctive personality as a destination city.
The National Retail Federation notes holiday shopping represents nearly 20 percent of total retail industry sales.
It’s an important show of support for the nearly 36,000 locally-owned business that employ nearly 50% of Austin’s workforce.
Strengthening community and appreciation of customers - your small local business is likely to know your name.
For these reasons and more, the City of Austin Economic Development Department is urging everyone to support small businesses throughout the holidays and especially on Small Business Saturday, November 25th. Let’s all show our locals some love and spend smart, spend local.
