Join us at the final round of community meetings in late July.
The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department is wrapping up a long range planning effort and will present a draft plan to the public in late July. The long range plan is designed to guide the development and growth of Austin’s park system over the next ten years.
“We’ve had a great response from the community and we are excited to share the plan we have developed to guide Austin’s park system into the future,” says Kim McKnight, project lead for the planning process and Acting Assistant Director for Parks Planning, Development, and Operations.

The Our Parks, Our Future planning process began in the fall of 2018 with the first five community meetings held in November. Immediately following those meetings, more than 4,400 community members completed an online survey describing how the parks system should improve in the next ten years and beyond. This input, together with needs assessment data gathered by WRT, the consultant developing the plan on behalf of the City, has helped park planners prioritize investments for parks and recreation over the next ten years.
The long range plan is developed every ten years and provides a blueprint to guide land acquisition, capital improvements, and the development of programs and amenities. The City of Austin’s leadership, staff, and partners are committed to involving the community in planning and decision making through a variety of means, including in-person meetings, ongoing informal conversations, and technology.
