Deceased: Quintin Vargas, a Hispanic male, (D.O.B) 06-16-1998
On Thursday, August 3, 2017 at approximately 11:29 p.m., Austin Police officers responded to a shots fired call at 6600 block Marble Creek Loop. 911 callers reported multiple rounds being fired by several men. Callers also reported that one of the men was dragged by others to a waiting vehicle that then fled. Arriving officers located fresh blood and multiple caliber shell casings at the scene. Other officers responding to the area observed three juveniles walking two blocks from the shooting. One of the juveniles, a 16 year old, was seen tossing a shirt and a large-caliber handgun off to the side of the road. Officers made contact with the juveniles. One of the Juveniles stated he was shot at first.
At 11:51 p.m., a 911 call was received from South Austin Hospital reporting an adult male had been brought in with a gunshot wound. The male, identified as Quintin Vargas was pronounced deceased at 12:21 a.m.
Homicide detectives believe Quintin Vargas and others drove to the 16 year olds residence with the intention of robbing him of guns and narcotics. A firefight ensued and Quintin Vargas was struck.
Based on information developed thus far, there does not appear to be a threat to the general public as this appears to be an isolated incident.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s will be performing an autopsy this morning.
Homicide detectives continue to investigate.
