City of AustinFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Initial work to implement the first phase of the Pease District Park Master Plan.
On Feb. 19, 2020, Kingsbury Commons, the southern 7 acres of Pease District Park, will close for construction. The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is partnering with Pease Park Conservancy (PPC) to implement the first phase of the Pease District Park Master Plan, which is anticipated to be complete early in 2021.
Kingsbury Commons will be closed to the public as the project partners undertake the construction of this major capital improvement project. The trail along the eastern side of Kingsbury Commons along Shoal Creek will remain open throughout the duration of the construction, as will the remaining 70 acres of Pease District Park. Trail users will still be able to access the trail from the W. 15th Street and N. Lamar Blvd. entrance south of Kingsbury Commons, as well as Custer's Meadow entrance at Parkway to the north of Kingsbury Commons.
The Kingsbury Commons project team has designed a world class park. The partners will
- renovate the Historic Tudor Cottage;
- restore the ecology of the site;
- provide enhanced lawn areas;
- provide wayfinding and signs;
- and build an event terrace, restrooms, a playground, a nature-based play area, an interactive water feature, a tree house, and sport courts.
