The community is invited to participate in the event with the City Auditor on June 18.

The community is invited to participate in an interactive virtual town hall meeting with the City Auditor Corrie Stokes and her office on June 18 to learn about the City’s redistricting process. The meeting will include an overview on the redistricting process and describe ways for Austinites to participate in this important and historical process. The meeting will also include a live question and answer period.

There are two opportunities to participate; the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission or the Applicant Review panel. Austin residents can apply at RedistrictATX.org.

The 14-member Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission will be responsible with redrawing the boundaries of the council districts. The Applicant Review Panel will select 60 of the most qualified applicants for the redistricting commission. Three independent auditors with CPAs will be selected to serve on the panel.

City Auditor Stokes and her office have been busy for the past few weeks creating a citywide outreach campaign to educate the community on this historical and important process.

“We hope you will join us as redistricting only occurs once every ten years and coincides with the census,” said City Auditor Stokes.  “In 2012, Austin voters elected to move to single members districts from an at large system. The ten City Council districts were initially created in 2013 by a diverse group of Austin residents who serve on the historic Redistricting Commission.”
