Veterans Park Public Meeting #2 will be on March 8, 2018.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is hosting a second community meeting to review concepts for Veterans Park. The purpose of this meeting is to review community input from the first meeting, and gather additional feedback on the potential design of the space.
Veterans Park Public Meeting #2 Thursday, March 8, 2018 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
American Legion, Travis Post 76 404 Atlanta Street Austin TX 78703
The focus of the Veterans Park project is to relocate and enhance the exhibition of three war memorials, originally located at Waterloo Park, to the existing Veterans Park. The intent of the proposed design will create a setting for the monuments that expresses a respectful and peaceful sense of place.
In addition, the project may also seek to incorporate additional space into the design for future Veterans' memorials. The proposed design also envisions allocation of space for events which may include ceremonies, dedications and local, regional, and national holiday observances. The display of the monuments will be fully accessible to the public, including the ability to touch and read inscriptions on any part of a memorial. The design of the park will address accessibility from Atlanta Street and Veterans Drive, and maximize accessibility throughout the park while being sensitive to the displays of the war memorials.
