On Oct. 19, 2018, 42 women veterans with Honor Flight Austin’s second all-women flight departed ABIA to Washington D.C.
AUSTIN, Texas – On Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, Honor Flight Austin’s second all-women flight departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Washington D.C. The flight transported 42 women veterans from World War II, Korean and Vietnam War to the nation’s capital to visit and experience the memorials built in their honor.
The WWII woman veterans come from across in Texas, while those who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars are from the Austin area and surrounding counties. According to Honor Flight Austin, the veterans will visit two major memorials dedicated to the women in the military, the Vietnam Women’s Memorial on the National Mall and the Women In Military Service For America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetary. The flight is Honor Flight’s 54th flight, and third for this fall of 2018.
The veterans arrived in the ticketing area at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) at around 10 a.m. The veterans, guardians, and staff assembled for a procession, from Gate 5 to Gate 12 around 11:30 a.m. The TSA Honor Guard and Austin Police Department Bag Pipes led the procession.
Honor Flight Austin departed Austin-Bergstrom at 12:10 p.m., and will be arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) at 4:40 p.m. The veterans will return Saturday, October 20, departing from Reagan at 4 p.m. and arriving at AUS at 6:30 p.m., all times local.
