Deceased Suspect: Florencio Felix Barron, Hispanic male, born 02/28/76
On Friday, December 6, 2019 at approximately 5:33 a.m., Austin 911 received a call of a shooting at 6306 E. Riverside Dr. (Valero Gas Station). Austin Police, Fire and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene, locating Verneranda Martinez-Gutierrez and Florencio Barron with obvious trauma to their bodies. Despite best efforts, both Martinez-Gutierrez and Barron succumbed to their wounds and were pronounced deceased on scene at 5:45 a.m.
Austin homicide detectives and crime scene units arrived to begin processing the scene. Through witness statements, detectives discovered that Barron was the common law husband of Gutierrez. Barron approached the car that Gutierrez was driving in the parking lot of the Valero and shot her. He then walked to the front of the car and shot himself.
The Travis County Medical Examiner’s office will conduct autopsies on both the decedents to ascertain official cause and manners of death.
