Whether you’re looking for a new happy hour spot, a local neighborhood grocer, or authentic Mexican cuisine, Manor Road District is the place to be. Located within close proximity to Downtown Austin, the University of Texas, and the Mueller District, the Manor Road District located between I-35 and Airport Blvd has become a destination for local businesses and diverse cultures that contribute to Austin’s distinctive character.
Home to legacy businesses including Hoover’s Cooking and Eastside Café, Manor Road has become an active business district that offers an eclectic array of boutique shops, fine dining, restaurants and watering holes, theater venues that support the strong local arts community in Austin, and basic day to day amenities for the community. “In a single visit you can grab groceries, get your dry cleaning done, service your car, have a delicious meal, and see a theatrical production. Not too many places in Austin offer such a wide range of services by so many wonderful locally-owned businesses,” said Josh Blaine, Manager at in.gredients.
With assistance from the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department’s Soul-y Austin program, Manor Road District businesses have been building capacity amongst themselves, creating a district vision and identifying priorities that will assist in enhancing and promoting the Manor Road District while at the same time shaping a sustainable, thriving future for small businesses in the area. Twelve plus months of collaboration between businesses and the City led to the formation of the Manor Road Merchants Association. The association represents the Manor Road business community and provides a platform for them to speak with a unified voice on the opportunities and challenges that may arise within their district. A diverse and strong membership base including Members of the Manor Road Merchants Association include Aztec Promotional Group, Clean Sweep, Dai Due, Eastside Café, Haymaker Austin, Hoover’s Cooking, in.gredients, Nui Organics, Patrizi’s, Raven + Lily, Roscoe Properties, School House Pub, Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, The Vortex, Unit-D Pizzeria, and Danes Body Shop make up the founding members of the Manor Road Merchants Association.
“From the passionate business-owners to the surrounding neighborhoods and residents, there is so much great energy in our district, and we have so much more we can offer now that we have a Merchants Association and support from the City of Austin to help facilitate our growth and expand and improve upon what we can provide to all the visitors coming to Manor Road,” said Shalou Bath, owner of Unit D-Pizzeria.
One of the many benefits of participating in the Soul-y Austin program and successfully forming a district merchants association is the creation of a promotional district video, and we are thrilled to present the Manor Road District video. A collaboration between Soul-y Austin, ATXN, and the Manor Road businesses led to the development of a video that showcases businesses and services in the area, promoting Manor Road and the unique experience it provides to its visitors.
The Manor Road District video, which is the first in the Soul-y Austin district video series, serves as an opportunity for businesses within the district to share their stories and provide insight into Manor Road’s rich history. In addition, viewers are able to enjoy the district’s ambience through the various shots of businesses, patrons, and events on Manor Road. The primary goal of the Manor Road district video is to promote the district and attract patrons and visitors, which will then positively impact each business and improve the economic vitality of the area. The video is an opportunity to promote the district through social media to attract visitors and tourists.
