City of Austin administrative offices and other municipal facilities will be closed Friday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 26, in observance of the Christmas holiday. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Dec. 27.
The following week, City offices and facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 2, for the New Year’s holiday. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 3.
Trash, recycling and yard trimmings collection for Austin Resource Recovery customers will remain on schedule during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
All Austin Public Library branches will close at 3 PM on Thursday, Dec. 22 and will remain closed Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26 for Christmas. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
Additionally, libraries will be closed on Sunday and Monday, Jan. 1 and 2, 2017.
All recreation centers, senior centers, museums and cultural arts centers will be closed from Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26, and on New Year’s Day. On Saturday, Dec. 24, all nature centers and the botanical gardens will be closed, and all of the Aquatic Facilities will be closing early at 4:00 p.m. Additionally, on New Year's Day these facilities will be closed.
All City golf courses and Barton Springs pool are open for public usage during this time, but on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, they will not be staffed. Public may play or swim for free on these days, but please note that there will be no staff available for assistance.
The City of Austin will present Austin’s New Year (ANY) from 3 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31 at Vic Mathias Shores. Some roadways in the area will be impacted by the event. Event information and related road closures can be viewed at www.austintexas.gov/ANY.
The winter holiday season is a time when intoxicated driving incidents in Texas increase. The City of Austin would like to remind residents and visitors that Capital Metro offers safe options for traveling on New Year’s Eve, with free rides. Consider taking one of Capital Metro’s special late night services, the Night Owl, MetroRapid or MetroRail to get to and from your destination safely.
