Join Mayor Lee Leffingwell for a Ribbon Cutting, Thursday, May 3, at 10:30 a.m.
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Waller Creek Boathouse. The new building, which is 10,800 square feet, was constructed on the site of two existing Parks and Recreation Department boat facilities as part of the Waller Creek Tunnel Project. It is necessary to remove the existing facilities to construct the outlet for the Waller Creek Tunnel. Removal of the existing facilities is expected to begin in May.
The new building is designed to be welcoming and accessible to the public, with a scenic observation deck, vending area, and public restrooms. Boat storage and office areas will be managed by the Austin Rowing Club, as part of their contract to operate the facility, authorized by City Council on March 1, 2012.
“We are excited to invite the citizens of Austin to come visit this remarkable new public amenity on the shores of Lady Bird Lake and see what it has to offer,” says Mayor Lee Leffingwell. “It is going to be a space loved and used by Austinites for many years to come.”
