AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin Economic Development Department announces the launch of its Heritage Grant through the Heritage Tourism Division. The Heritage Grant is aimed at honoring and preserving Austin as a place of personal heritage to promote tourism through the preservation of historic buildings, sites or (contributing) districts. Projects must be at, or in the immediate vicinity of, convention center facilities, or located in areas frequented by tourists and convention delegates. The deadline for online applications is May 1.
The Heritage Tourism Division provides leadership and management for the City’s heritage tourism programs to attract tourists and convention delegates and to derive economic, business, and community benefits associated with honoring and preserving Austin as a place of personal heritage.
“Preserving Austin’s historic assets allows us to utilize historic preservation as a mechanism for building community, enhancing Austin’s sense of place, and serves as an investment back into our community,” said Melissa Alvarado, Heritage Tourism Division Manager.
Two types of eligible Heritage Grant projects include:
- Heritage Capital Projects: Preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings, sites or districts. Maximum award for capital grant awards is up to $250,000 per application.
