Location: Wells Fargo Bank – 10900 block of Research Blvd
The Austin Police Department Robbery Unit has made an arrest in yesterday’s bank robbery at the Wells Fargo located at 10900 Research Blvd. Lyndel Smith made threatening statements to a Wells Fargo teller before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash. Smith was apprehended by APD patrol officers at a nearby bus stop and the stolen cash was recovered. Smith was booked into the Travis County Jail for robbery by threat – a second degree felony.
There were no reported injuries during the robbery.
This is the eighth bank robbery in Austin this year. Detectives do not believe Smith is associated with any unsolved bank robberies.
Smith was also charged with robbery by threat for attempting to rob the Randall’s Pharmacy (also located at 10900 Research Blvd) just prior to the bank. Smith approached the drive-up and tried to force the window open while unsuccessfully demanding money. Witnesses reported Smith then running towards the Wells Fargo.
