(Austin, TX ) Representatives of seven North American cities attended the North American Music Cities Best Practice Summit at City Hall on March 17 and 18. The Summit was hosted by the Music & Entertainment Division of the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department during the 2016 South by Southwest Music Festival.
The Summit, now in its second year, hosted the returning cities of Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, and welcomed the additions of Denver and Nashville. Representation included: Austin, TX - Economic Development Department - Music & Entertainment Division Chicago, IL - Office of Cultural Affairs and Special Events Denver, CO - Create Denver Nashville, TN - Music City Music Council San Francisco, CA - Nightlife and Entertainment Sector, San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development Seattle, WA - Office of Film and Music Toronto, CANADA - Film & Entertainment Industries Office
Participating cities were also welcomed by Austin Mayor Steve Adler, who joined the group for opening remarks on the first day of the Summit.
This unique opportunity to meet allowed representatives from each participating city to share best practices, gather insight on the issues facing cities with strong entertainment economies, and to discuss common goals. The Music Cities Summit included a series of roundtable discussions between representatives from cities with music, entertainment, and special events divisions.
