Revel, a shared electric low-speed motorcycle service, will officially launch in Austin on November 1, 2019. The service offers short term rentals of electric low-speed motorcycles.
Austin Transportation Department reminds drivers to exercise caution when using this new vehicle type, as speeds can go as high as 35 miles per hour. A helmet is recommended for safety.
Drivers are required to follow all uniform traffic laws in the State of Texas. Low speed electric motorcycles are prohibited from using bike lanes and expected to operate in vehicle travel lanes. At no time may these vehicles operate or be parked on sidewalks or urban trails.
Electric low speed motorcycles, which are licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, are able to legally operate on roads 35 miles per hours or less.
Rides must begin and end within the city of Austin. Beginning today, these vehicles are being staged at various locations in the city as Revel prepares for their launch.
