On Saturday, May 12, 2018, members of the Austin Police Department’s Explorer Program, City of Austin Veteran’s Program, Austin Code Compliance, community volunteers, local businesses and Honor Flight Austin will team up to surprise 83-year-old Korean War Veteran, Waylon D. Griffin with home improvements and an Honor Flight to Washington, DC. The project will take place at 2600 W. 48th St. at 8 a.m.
The community outreach project provides a unique opportunity for the local community and businesses to give back to someone who proudly served our country during the Korean War. Work to be performed at the house includes landscaping and sprucing up the homes exterior and flower beds.
The APD’s Explorers program is a volunteer program made up of youth ages 14 through 21 who are interested in law enforcement career opportunities. This project allows our Explorers with an opportunity to provide a much needed community service to honor Mr. Griffin.
