HIV and AIDS Surveillance

The HIV/AIDS Surveillance effort identifies the number of new HIV and AIDS cases in Travis County as well as certain behavior patterns and other risk factors that lead to HIV infection. The information gathered is used in policy making for the planning of future services. Active surveillance efforts follow strict procedures to ensure the confidentiality of HIV/AIDS case reports. Case statistics are gathered from local physicians' offices, clinics, hospitals and death certificates.
