In the Community
Although we love and care about pets at Town Lake Animal Center, we know that our shelter is not the best place for a pet to be... at home with a family who cares is the best place for a pet! To help owners keep and care for their pets, Town Lake Animal Center is active in the community to help provide medical care and information on how to live with and manage pets.
Rabies Clinics

Four to six times each year, Town Lake staff and volunteers head out into different neighborhoods to provide free rabies vaccinations and Pet Registration to low-income pet owners. At these clinics, owners receive a free 1-year rabies vaccination for their pet(s), a rabies tag, and have their pet registered with the County. Our Veterinarians, Animal Control Officers, and Behaviorists are also available to help answer questions and provide suggestions for veterinary care and behavior management. Take a look at the upcoming rabies clinic information below.

Low Cost Veterinary Care
It's a MUST to provide proper veterinary care to your pet, but we understand that veterinary care can be hard to provide when pet owners have very limited budgets. Town Lake Animal Center does not operate a veterinary clinic for animals living with families in the community, but we work very closely with two great organizations in Austin that provide low-cost or free veterinary services:
- Animal Trustees of Austin Operates a Wellness Clinic for basic preventative care, and a spay/neuter clinic for pet sterilization, both at 5129 Cameron Rd. See their website for hours and more information.
- EmanciPet Operates a Spay/Neuter clinic at 601 E. Airport Blvd, a mobile spay/neuter clinic which visits different neighborhoods on different days, and a spay/neuter shuttle service to take animals to and from the Austin spay/neuter clinic from various smaller towns near Austin, like Bastrop, Georgetown and Lockhart.
The City of Austin sponsors EmanciPets' mobile spay/neuter clinics on Thursdays and Fridays each week in East Austin, so on those days, the spay or neuter surgery, rabies vaccination, and pet registration provided at the clinic are FREE for East Austin residents. View this month's schedule
TV Appearance
Town Lake Animal Center appreciates the time we are given on local Austin television stations to get the word out about pet care issues and pets that are available for adoption. Look for us:
Each Saturday morning on KVUE Weekend Daybreak
Each Saturday and Sunday throughout the day on News 8 Austin
The 3rd and 5th Friday of each month on Fox 7 News in the Morning
