GREEN WATER TREATMENT PLANT REDEVELOPMENT
The GreenWater development is part of the Seaholm District in Downtown Austin. Formerly the Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant, the site is bounded by Shoal Creek to the west, the 2nd Street alley to the north, San Antonio Street to the east, and Cesar Chavez to the south. Nueces Street and 2nd Street WERE extended through the site as part of the project. Through a competitive bidding process, the City of Austin selected the Trammell Crow Company as the Master Developer and entered into a Master Development Agreement for the sale and redevelopment of the former water treatment plant. Trammell Crow and partners will develop 1.7 million square feet of mixed-uses including residential, office, hotel and retail. The ground-floor retail will provide opportunities for local business, and the project will make significant contributions to sustainability, open space, affordability, public art and music. The development team purchased the property in phases under the terms of the Master Development Agreement starting in January 2014, with Block 1 (NorthShore Apartments). Block 23 (500 W 2nd Street) offices houses Google as an anchor tenant. The Austin Proper Hotel and Condominium on Block 188 is anticipated to open in 2019. The fourth parcel, Block 185 Offices, began construction in 2019 and will be entirely leased by Google upon completion in 2021. The Economic Development Department’s Redevelopment Division leads this project on behalf of the city.
