Endangered Songbird hike on the BCP
Sign up to attend this event on the Wildlands Activity Calendar.
Come and enjoy a morning of birding on the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve to learn about our two endangered songbirds, the Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped Vireo. This is a unique opportunity to go out with a biologist to learn about their habitat and natural history.
The 2-mile leisurely hike through Ashe juniper-oak woodlands is on level ground along a watershed divide where Golden-cheeked Warblers can be easily seen, and we’ll also have an opportunity to hear and possibly see Black-capped Vireos. Other songbirds we’ll likely encounter include Painted Buntings, Summer Tanagers, Blue-Grey Gnatcatchers, and possibly some surprise migrants.
Considerations: All skill levels are welcome. The hike is limited to 15 individuals. Bring binoculars, drinking water, and don’t forget sun protection and closed-toed shoes appropriate for hiking.
