Meet the City of Austin Fleet Mobility Services

Austin’s Fleet Mobility Service department proudly supports the many departments providing City services to America’s 10th largest city.

Established as its own department in the late 1960s with just a few hundred vehicles, it now manages 7,000+ fleet assets across 25 departments. Departments include public works and emergency services, such as Fire, Police and EMS, as well as Austin’s owned utilities — Austin Energy, Austin Water, and Austin Resource Recovery.

Fleet Mobility Services manages a comprehensive full life cycle management program. These services include budget, acquisition, make ready, repair and maintenance, accident management and disposal including maintaining 42 City owned fuel sites.

Fleet Mobility Services is excited about our role in the City of Austin’s Mobility Outcome. As the automotive industry goes through disruptive change, our goal at Fleet Mobility Services is to harness the power of technology including big data and artificial intelligence, to make our department and the overall city smarter and more efficient in the delivery of services to our citizens. As dynamic changes in the mobility industry unfold, our business model continues to evolve, and as we navigate the future, we are focused on building a sound, yet agile mobility strategy that continues our strong commitment to environmental stewardship, while incorporating multimodal solutions to meet our customer’s needs.

Achieving our mobility outcome goals will require continuous reimagining of our role and the services that we provide, and as is true in any successful organization, achieving these goals will also be dependent on high levels of collaboration with our customer departments and other vital stakeholders, to ensure that they have the tools and the support they need. As our mobility strategy evolves, we remain committed, championing a culture of continuous improvement by “leaning in” to our challenges as we strive to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Austin. Throughout my career, I've always had a heightened interest in new technology and processes designed to make things better. In my current role as Director of Fleet Mobility Services at the City of Austin, I have the unique opportunity to do just that, more now than ever before!
