After submitting your interest card you will be able to download the application, also known as the Background History Statement (BHS).
Follow the instructions on the BHS to submit your application packet.
Application packets are reviewed in the order they are received. You cannot hand-deliver packets to the Recruiting office. Review the instructions for information on how to submit your application packet.
Applicants who submit a completed application packet and meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to attend Phase I testing. Phase I testing is a two-day testing period that consists of:
Day 1 consists of your physical, written, Nelson-Denny, and psychological testing.
If you pass everything on Day 1 you will be given an oral board interview time for the next day (day 2).
Upon successful completion of the initial two-day testing, applicants will go through a background investigation.
Upon successful completion of the background investigation, applicants will be required to come to Austin for Phase II testing. Phase II tseting is a two-day testing period which consists of:
Upon successful completion of Phase II testing, applicants will be given a conditional offer for employment.
The final portion of testing includes the mandatory physical retest and academy orientation. This usually occurs approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the start of the academy. This will require a third trip to Austin if you have not already moved here.
Academy and Field Training
The Regular Academy is approximately 8 months of training. Recruits will be required to perform classroom academics and perform physical/defensive tactics proficiency while attending the Academy. Graduates of the Academy will be placed into a twelve week APD Field Training Program.
