Cameras at Red Light Program
"Keep Austin Safe"

The City of Austin has implemented Cameras at Red Light Program for the purposes of reducing the number of red light crashes at signalized intersections. The name of this violation is Ran Red Light-Photo.

A vehicle registered in your name was photographed running a red light, or the registered owner of the vehicle depicted on this citation has submitted an affidavit naming you as the driver of the vehicle at the time of the violation. This offense of running a red light is a violation of the City of Austin Code of Ordinances, Chapter 12, Article 6

Penalty and Payments

The penalty for Ran Red Light - Photo is $75.00 if paid on or before the respond by date listed on your citation. Failure to submit payment on or before the respond by date located on the citation will result in the addition of a $25.00 late penalty.

Payment Options

As the registered owner or driver of the vehicle described in this citation, if liable, you may submit payment by using one of the options listed below. Failure to respond by the respond by date is an admission of liability and waiver of your right to a hearing by a hearing officer or an appeal.

  1. Pay online. Refer to the Fine and Payments for information on getting your payment to the Court.
  2. Pay through Western Union. You will need to complete a quick collect blue form at any Western Union location. You will need: (1) Case number(s), (2) City Code: AustinMunicipalCourt , and (3) State Code: TX.
  3. Pay by mail with personal check, money order, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, or American Express accepted). Do Not Send Cash. Make checks or money orders payable to: City of Austin
  4. Pay in person at any Municipal Court location:
    Downtown: 700 E. 7th Street; Mon-Thurs, 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.; or Friday 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
    North Substation: 12425 Lamplight Village (South of Parmer); Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    South Substation: 5700 Manchaca Road (@ Stassney Lane); Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.


Contesting a Ran Red Light - Photo Citation

You must contest the citation on or before the respond by date located on the front of the citation. If you contest the citation by mail, the request must be postmarked on or before the respond by date

Under Chapter 12, Article 6 of the City Code, the owner of a vehicle is liable for a civil penalty for running a red light that is captured by a red light camera. However, the vehicle owner may contest liability by completing and submitting the Affidavit of the Non-Liability (link to affidavit) and returning it by the respond by date shown on the citation. You may mail the Affidavit of Non-Liability in the enclosed envelope to City of Austin Municipal Court, P.O. Box 2135, Austin, TX. 78768-2135 or appear in court in person (link to locations). Rental or leasing agencies may choose to complete the affidavit indicating who was driving.

  • If vehicle was rented or leased to another individual by a rental or leasing company at the time of the violation, you must complete the affidavit.
  • If the vehicle was sold prior to the date of the violation, you must include a copy of the transfer of sale along with the completed affidavit or submit proof from the Texas Department of Transportation that you sold the vehicle.
  • If the vehicle was being test driven at the time of violation, you must list driver information on the affidavit.
  • If the vehicle or the license plates were stolen, you must submit a copy of the police report, along with the completed affidavit.


Right to a Hearing

You have the right to a hearing to contest this citation. To have a hearing before a Hearing Officer, you can appear in person at 700 E. 7th St., Austin, TX between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., or you may submit a written request by mail for an administrative hearing before the respond by date shown on the citation.
